Credit Card Security – EPIC FAIL

credit-debit-card-theft-image Today, my manager sent out an email that someone charged $3000 of camping equipment onto his company credit card. Considering that we use that card to buy raw materials or equipment, we all knew that his card number was compromised.

The card is under our CEO’s account and senior staff is added on to this account, such as my boss.

When he called to cancel it, the customer service person would not.  The card was under our CEO’s account and they would only cancel the card if my boss knew the CEO’s date of birth and mother’s maiden name.  That simply blew us away, it was obvious someone is spending money on a stolen credit card but the customer service representative said he couldn’t cancel it just because my boss didn’t know the answers to the security questions to make sure he’s the authorized card holder. Apparently, it was a breach in their security protocols.

To cancel it, he had to go to our Human Resources and Finance to get the ‘security answers’

So, here’s what we know.  My boss now knows our CEO’s birth date and mother’s maiden name.  We all know the CEO’s name and it’s probably not hard for us to find out where the he lives.  If my boss was a criminal, he now has enough information to to pose as our CEO and make fraudulent purchases himself.

I couldn’t remember if it was VISA or Master Card.  Which ever company it was shame on you.  Your own policies actually encouraging potential identify theft.

CSN Product Review: Aladdin Tea Infuser Mug

logoBack in November, I wrote another teaser post that I was given another opportunity to do a product review for CSN Stores.  I actually ended up getting three products this time.  This Tea Infuser Mug is the first review

One of my personal goals is to cut back on my coffee drinking.  Since returning to full time work, I have been increasing my intake to 3 or 4 mugs per day.  We all know that can’t be healthy.

The reason why I didn’t drink more tea at work because it’d get cold before I finish a cup.  My work has been terrible for the past few months and l always have major distractions so I often forget about my tea.

It was wonderful when I stumbled upon the Aladdin Tea Infuser Mug

Pros

  • Lever strainer allows to control the strength of the tea and preserve more seeps
  • Clear mug shows how much of your beverage is left
  • Mug keeps the beverage hot much longer then traditional mugs
  • Large capacity – I like alot of tea

Cons

  • The tea leaves sometimes get caught in the strainer when cleaning
  • Moving parts, always potential of wearing out
  • The basket catch did come loose once and tea leaves fell out

Overall, I love the mug.  The convenience is the best thing about the mug and it’s spill resistant.  I actually cut back my coffee consumption from 3 mugs a day to 4 or 5 mugs a week!  Best result, I’m finding my clothes are fitting better and my nerves are more calm.

Update:  The day after I wrote the above review, the inside part of the cup came right out!  I filled it up with hot water and when putting the lid on it got stuck, and then the inside came out.  My husband managed to fixed it using pure strength.  My love of the mug when from great to merely ‘okay’ as I’ve had the mug for one month.  However, it’s as good as new.

Welcome Baby Aubrey!

IMG_0034One of our best family friends just had their second baby, Aubrey, last month. Last week we were invited over to their house to see her for the first time.

She was born in the year of the Rabbit.  So designed a card just for Aubrey.  I am happy with the result.  I hope they liked it.  My favourite is the butterfly font.  I’m proud of it, it was a challenge to do the ears.

Lesson’s Learned

Keep things simple.  I wanted to make a more elaborate design and wasn’t satisfied.  Then I realized that my style has always been simple and clean.  After that realization, the design came to me very easily.

Paper quality is key.  My previous work was printed on 65 pound cardstock.  For this card I used a 110 pound index cardstock by Wausau that I got from CSN Stores.  I’m happier with the results.
